TEXAS CAMPING TRIP – 1958

Film and photo restoration is something I do for my side hustle. 

I recently restored an 8mm film reel my grandmom left behind. It’s one of two she kept stored in a box with a bunch of old family photos, color slides and film negatives. 

This reel documents a camping trip to Lake Travis and Hamilton Pool over Independence Day weekend in 1958. My granddad was working the camera. 

The 60+ year-old film was in bad shape, especially in the beginning, but with a bit of adjusting and some sound gardening, and boosting things to 1080p, I’m happy with the results. Check it out:
